The Sneaky Truth

Does your own truth sometimes startle you?
I walk the trail – a surprise of sparkling snow
Sometimes it whispers softly, sometimes it screams, “Hello?!”

A tender trickle of a stream on a silent day
A searing wind that cuts through the seams
Does your own truth sometimes startle you, too?

A sparrow hops and mouse darts – no destination clear
A fox zeroes in and arcs with intention, attacking prey lurking near
Sometimes it whispers softly, sometimes it screams, “HELLO!”

A neighbor crunches over in the snow
And offers up some kindness on a plate – the type your mother might’ve known
Does your own trust sometimes sneak up on you?
A door can slam
A path can end
Sometimes truth whispers softly, sometimes it screams hello

The morning light can kiss the mountains
and burn slow heat through a window
Does your own truth sometimes startle you?
Sometimes it whispers softly, sometimes it screams, “Hello!”
